Alex is getting braver. On Thursday he came to Dublin Airport to see me off, despite the winks, smiles, and knowing looks of the Bailey Bookworms.

“Do they have to stare so much?” he asked, with his arms wrapped around me beside the security gates.

“I’m afraid so. But they do like you.”

“Kitty keeps saying she’ll put me in her next book.”

I burst out laughing. “Oh dear, that’s not good.”

“I know.” He wrinkled his forehead and pretended to be terrified.

“Anyhow, forget about them. I’ll message you when we land, but I might not ring much because we have plans every evening.”
