Throughout the 19th Century, records of giant water beasts—not magical creatures or mythical beings, but flesh and blood animals—living in Lochs and along the shores of Scotland multiplied quickly, as authors searched for such accounts to actualize many of the bestiaries that had survived from the Middle Ages and, to a lesser extent, as a way to attract tourist to certain areas.
