Gabe didn’t think there was any other way to explain it—this gift of energy right when they needed it.

“Thank you, God,” he whispered.

“I’m not sure I’d be thanking him just yet,” Lu said. “Have you forgotten that all the Chinese colony vessels broke off contact with Hope when that last Earth war started? That ship could be sent to destroy Hope, not help it.”

Forgotten? Gabe had never heard of any of the events Lu was talking about. He never paid attention in History. He didn’t even understand why it was a required course. None of that dead and gone Earth stuff was ever going to be any use to anybody.
