Where were
the wanderers
Who ebbed
And flowed

Secret souls
Who went with
The tides and gales
What became of those
Who soared with comets
And meteors

Never staking claim
Or planting seed
In a simple acre of soil
Shielded from wind
And the erosion of flight –

What became of those
Whose yearnings were
To chase storms
and streams
Mountain-tops
But could
never sit calmly
Within the tree of life

The wind is always so –
The sound
of Earth’s breath
Echoing across water
As waves

What became of Earth’s children
Who flew too close to the stars
And sailed too near
to fall’s edge.
