“The real money comes when they sell his records,” Alice continued. “He also gets money from when the song plays on the radio or TV. He's workin' on a new song right now, so he'll have another one to put out in a couple of months. I'm gonna be in his song.”

   “What's it about?” Sissy asked.

   “It's about drag racing and teenage gangs,” Alice said.

   “Oh,” Delia said, making a face, “that doesn't sound like a very good topic. Are you in a gang?”

   “Oh, no, Mama,” Alice said. “It's just a story he made up, but my name is gonna be in there.”
